Watch the exercises this acting class does HERE. We will try both activities in our class too!

Also, please choose one question below and answer in the comments.

1. Why do you get nervous speaking in front of people?

2. Have you given a speech in front of a large crowd before? What was it like?

3. Do you have any ideas about how to prepare yourself before a speech so that you are not so nervous?

And remember - you should be informing yourself and talking to people about your topic this week!!!! Write me if you need help~

  1. Hi!
    I watched the video!
And I enjoyed it so much!
    I couldn't help smilig!*:)

    I chose the QUESTION 2.
When I was a junior high school student,I participated in a big speech contest.
I was not at all confident in my speaking ability, and I wasn't able to speak with confidence.
The result was that every judges said my voice had been too small to hear in spite of the good content of the speech.
I was very disappointed and I still can't forget it now...X(
So I really want to build up my confidence in the Matt's class!!!I'll do my best!

  2. Hi.
    I watched the video.
I thought it is necessary to find good point of myself to have confidence.

    I chose question #2.
I have got several chances to give a speech in front of a large crowd. The biggest one was the one I did when I was in the middle school. I gave a speech both in English and Japanese as a vice-president of student council in the graduation ceremony.
I got pretty nervous, but I practiced it many times, and I also wrote what to say beforehand, so I was okay.
I think preparation is one of the key to have confidence when giving a speech.

  3. Hi, Matt.

    I watched the video.
It was very fun, but that kind of activities is a little embarrassing for me.

Anyway, I chose the question #3.
One solution I came up with is to prepare many handout or display materials so that the audience will pay less attention to me.

I really hope to build my confidence next week.

  4. Hi, Matt.

I've watched the video. It seems fun, and certainly I will laugh when I have these activities.

    I chose the question 3.
I had a speech (or a presentation) contest among my class in high school every year, and I also had some opportunities to make a small speech in front of people in the class. I was afraid I would make some mistakes and got so nervous that my legs were trembling. I just tried to ignore it and pretend to be OK.
I do hope to overcome such situations.

    See you next week!

I was so nervous that I spoke too fast at first. When I finished,my teacher told me that I should have be more confident.

This time,I'll be relaxed and try to do my best.

    Anyway,see you the next class!

  7. Hi,Matt.

    I watched the video.
It was interesting, but these activities seemed a little difficult to do for me.

    I chose the question 1.
The reason why I get nervous is because I'm afraid of mistakes.
I cannot help but pursue perfection.
Also,I don't like to stand out. When people pay attention to me, I cannot be calm.

I'd like to build confidence in your class.

  8. Hi!I watched the video. It seems kind of hard for me to do it.

    I chose question number 1.
The reason why people including myself get nervous is that they are afraid of mistakes. So the best thing to do is to prepare very well.
When I prepare very well I usually don`t get so nervous compared to when I haven`t prepared much.

Also people might get worried if the audience has interest in what they are talking about.

    I have watched the video.
It seems enjoyable, but I am so shy that it is difficult for me to do these activities.

    I chose the question 1.

I am often worried whether people enjoy my presentation or not.
I think this is the reason why I get nervous speaking in front of people.

So I have to make a really interesting presentation.

  10. Hello.
I watched the video. It seems very fun,but I think I will be nervous and bewildered when doing so myself.
    I chose the question3.
In order not to be so nervous in public,we should have confidence in ourselves.
People are likely to freeze up in company when they are not confident in themselves. So we should make full preparation for what to say, practice again and again, and convince ourselves that we will make good.

I watched video, and enjoyed it.I am not good at speaking in front of large people,so Id like to try to do it very hard in the next class.

    I chose the question 1.
Why do you get nervous speaking in front of people?
I think this is why because we imagine what people think ,and worry about it too much.We fear
the failure too much, and get nervous.

Id like to get confidence throuth this class.

And I'll write about topic #3.
I have made speeches in front of many people, but whenever I made speeches, I have never got nervous.
I think of many people as my friend, so I speak as if I was telling my friends.
Thanks to this, I can make speeches fluently.

  16. Hi,
in that video it was funny that everybody looked embarrassed, but when I do it, I maybe feel embarrassed too.

    I choose question#2.
    When I was a Junior-high school student,
I was the student's president. So I had had lots of opportunities to make speeches in public.I hear what counts most is to get used to giving a speech,to practice again and again.
But actually,I was always too nervous to explain what I intended to say perfectly when I made a speech.

I think the exercize is very interesting!

    I choose question#1.

  20. Hi, Matt.

    I watched the video.
Activities like this is most difficult for me.
The next class will be hard for me, but I'll try to brag myself.

    I chose Q3.
I made a speech on various occasions.
But I always felt nervous, and I still so.
I often care "how people think of myself"
during my speech, especially when the audience is those whom I 'm not familiar with.
Also, I am puzzled where to see.
When I participated speech contest, it made me confused.

I always think I'm not good at speaking in front of unfamiliar audience.

So, I want to overcome this weak point!
I endeavor to be "good" at speech.

    See you,

I watchedthe video. But I had a probrem with my computer. I can't hear them at all.
So I'm gonna try again with another computer before the class.

    I chose Q1.
I think people aren't used to speaking in front of a large audience. If they have more opportunities to make speach, they might be better at it.
And practice will certainly make them more confident. If they prepared enough, they are not likely to make mistakes. So there's no need to feel nervous.

    See you in the class.

    I'll answer the question No.2.
I have got a speech in front of all students in my junior high school. It was a speech for the election of the student council.
Then I got so nervous that I thought my brain burst because of high blood pressure!
I ended the speech without any trouble and was elected, but I still don't want to remember that time...

1, Because I’m afraid that the audience are getting bored or thinking that I’m boring.

2,Yes.I’ve given a speech in front of all the students when I was in elementary school.
I was young and I didn’t really care about what people are thinking, so I didn’t get nervous at all.

  30. Hi Matt.

It was an interesting video. I believe confidence is a very interesting thing to get. I'm looking forward to tomorrow class.

I'll answer the question 1: why do you get nervous speaking infront of people? I think the answer is that many people (including me) basically don't like being watched. When someone wathches you, you wonder why he/she is watching you and may think you are doing something wrong and embarrassing. Then, you feel uncomfortable and get nervous.

    See you. Good night.

  31. Hi, Matt!
The activities on the video seem very interesting. I can't wait antil tomorrow!

    I chose Question #2.
When I was a high school student of 2nd grade, I had to give a speech in front of my class.
I felt very nervous, so I spoke too fast.
All students had to speak 7 minutes or more, but my speach took only 4 minutes.

This is my bad memory, but I can learn from this experience. So, I will be carefull of my speaking speed next time!

  32. Hi, matt
I watched the video and found it important to know one's own good points to build confidence. But I think it'll be a little difficult to do it.

I'll answer the question 1.I think a speaker gets norvous because he isn't used to speaking in front of and being watched by many people. Also he gets norvous because he worries about his audience's responce or feeling, for example, whether they enjoy his speech or whether they understand tluely his speech.

I'm looking forward to seeing you tomorrow.

  33. Hi,Matt!!

I watched the video. It seems interesting, but I think it is more difficult to tell about my good points than bad points.

Anyway, I want to answer the question2.
I think one of te reasons why we tend to get nervous when speaking in front of many people is that we want to make the speech perfect.
Therefore,we naturally get afraid of mistakes, worried about mistakes and get nervous.

So,what we have to do is to practice many many times until we feel certain that we can't make any mistakes.

I am shy,so I hope I can build confidence through your class!!

  34. Hi,Matt.

I watched the video. It seems important but difficult for me to build confidence.

I chose the question NO1:Why do you get nervous speaking in front of people?
I think it is because I don't have confidence in my speech, and care about being watched by many people. But I think these kinds of concern can be easily removed by a lot of repetitions.
So,I want to practice and practice in your class.

I watched the video and found it fun.
But at the same time, it seems a little difficult for me to do the activity.

Well, I chose the question #2.
I have participated in a speech contest in my junior high school.
The speech was about my dream.

I got really nervous while speaking, because I hadn't had any experience to give a speech in front of so many people.

I gets nervous because of the fears of making mistakes or forgetting about what I am going to say.
Standing in front of peole(especially a large crowd)makes me nervous, too. I feel many people looking at me and my face get flush.

  37. Hi,

    I chose #2.
I made a speech as a represent of the school when I was pupil and celebrated the new comers.Didn't feel nervous because I made the script funny and play a short comedy. It depends on the contents wehter you are nervous or not. If the speaker is exited the things goes well.

  38. Hi Matt!

I think it is very important for us to know individual's good point.

    I chose the number1.

When I take to one or few people, it is no problem.

However, when I talk to so many people in their presence I feel nervous because I feel disadvantage.

When I make a speech, there are many people whom I don't know.

That is the reason why I feel nervous in public speech.
